“I also wish you the very best and hope you’re entering the best chapter of your life.
I hope you become a mother.
I hope you get to work with Alo.
I hope that you finally become financially independent.
I hope that you get a green card.
I hope that you get remarried to someone one day and hopefully live happily ever after.” These are not well wishes, these words were written to me to point out what I was never going to get considering my decisions in life.
But instead this became my mantra.

In a moment of my life when I could have easily believed him and set my self up for failure, I choose to trust.
To love my self enough to leave.
I did have doubts in my self but despite that, I never looked back.

Because I deserve all the above.

To be happy, to be allowed to dream about building my own family, find somebody who loves me and makes me feel safe.
Being emotionally and financially independent in this country that I am proud to call home.
To work with a company I trully beleive in.

Find within your self the courage to say no.
To put your self first.
To not allow someone to tell you what you are capable of.
Trust those who deserve your love and be proud of who you are.

But more then anything , tranform pain into an opportunity.
To grow.
Transform.
To become the best version of your self.

Silence.

Silence was my abuser’s biggest weapon.

The one that he used to paint an idea of us that everybody perceived as ideal.
Ideal for him to keep doing what he was doing.
Controlling me.
I was terrified to speak up and to admit that, over and over again I was choosing to be a prisoner.
Terrified to disappoint everybody around me, ashamed and more then everything scared of what he would have done if I was going to leave him.
If I was going to start to say no.

The truth is, telling my story is what saved me.
Leaving him was my biggest victory.
That one moment when I reclaimed my soul and I choose happiness.

So, speak up.

Make the word uncomfortable with your honesty does not matter what the consequences will be.
Stop preserve the beauty of an ideal picture perfect life and instead expose the truth.
Because is there, in the imperfections of its lines that lies that kind of splendor that we are all made of.

Acro Yoga gave me wings.
It taught me how,
in a world where the meaning of communication and connection are completely twisted by social media and the overall indifference of people,
we can still be real.

It redefined the meaning of touch, a sense that is almost lost in modern society.

It taught me to use the movements of my body to create a symphony with somebody else.
A dance that goes way beyond the physical aspect for of two bodies supporting each other to perform a yoga pose.

Something that transcends time and space.

Connection.
Pure, raw and simple.

What I believe to be the key of a relationship.
The ability to be there for each other, to hold each other accountable, to never fear falling and only aim to become the best we can be.

Together.

What for some can appear just as an acrobatic, purly physical practice, has become for me so much more.
It has become the ability to recognize what love is really supposed to be.

Trust. Connection. Communication.

If you never tried this practice before I am teaching an acro yoga fundamentals series @alonewyork assisted by @everydaylivin today at 2.30pm.
First class is free.

Take those cracks in our physical body and soul, and instead of calling them scars, redefine them as strong foundations.
Being broken is only a part of us.

We need to have the courage to embrace all of who we are, and use that to remodel ourselves.

When I started to practice yoga, I would come undone and then put myself back together again in the desperate attempt to try to rebuild a sense of self that I had lost.It has always been a one-on-one relationship between me and my mat. A moment of complete disconnection from the world meant to reconnect to my broken heart.

And because of that I never let anybody in.

When I met Brendan, I was extremely vulnerable. I found myself, once again, trapped in a life that was not for me. I was numbed by desperation – the kind of desperation that festers inside of a loveless, controlling relationship. I was equal parts ashamed and afraid. The fear paralyzed me from admitting how broken I was; the shame kept me fighting for an already lost cause.
But I was also aware, and the awareness was slowly destroying me.
Somehow, in the mist of that confusion, I allowed this man that I barely knew to hold my hands and do the one thing I never allow anybody to do: Practice with me.

Be my base.

Hold me while I was falling apart, harder than I ever did.

And there, while learning to fly together, not only did I realize that I had never trusted anybody before him but also that I had never truly experienced what it means to be connected.

To be loved for all the wrong that I am.

I learned what it means to be one with somebody else. “I will never let you fall” he used to tell me when I was too afraid to try a pose.“You can do it”.“You got this”.“I got you”. And he was right. I could do it, and he never let me fall.He picked up all the pieces of my broken soul and patiently put them back together. He taught me that I don’t need wings to fly.
That I am stronger than I ever thought I could be and with the help of others I can achieve anything I want.

That I never needed to be saved.

All I needed to do was to place my trust in the right person.

We all have many stories to share on how yoga changed our life.
How it helped us to heal and grow both spiritually, physically and emtionally.

We all seems to get to our mat in different ways but for the same reasons:

To feel.
To let go.
To understand.
