Morning inspiration for our weekend with @cabanashow. We’ll be holding Shaped Tray workshops all weekend in-show - this time with optional paint splatter patterns. Join us if you’re in NYC and coming to the show.

MoMA!!!

Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, 1907 📷: @gianneala
Ticked off from my bucket list was our visit to #moma last July. I was blown away by paintings which I only saw on books when I was in college taking up Fine Arts. This year, I have pledged to paint 6 artworks with @lisa_g_alcantara (wala nang atrasan, ni-reveal ko na!) and part of the “inspiration seeking” process is seeing more art. @teejai and I are visiting the Art Fair PH today and we’re looking forward to seeing inspiring works by Filipino artists! #art #inspiration #picasso #cubism

❤️ #fridakahlo #pablopicasso #salvadordali #renemagritte #phillipguston #annetruitt #arte #moma #museumofmodernart #newyork

Angie and 4 of her kids (left to right: Shiloh,Zahara,Maddox and Pax)at MoMa (The Museum of Modern Art), on Thursday, February 21, in New York.
The actress and director, was at the event to launch the Serendipity documentary, directed by multidisciplinary artist Prune Nourry, executive produced by Angelina.
Serendipity shares the experiences about the diagnosis of Prune Nourry of breast cancer, very sensitive subject for Angelina, which has a mutation in the BRCA1 gene, which would increase her chances of having breast cancer, if she had not opted for preventive surgery performed in the year 2013 and shared with the world in an article published by the New York Times. Today Angelina has less than 5% chance of developing breast cancer, a percentage that was more than 80% before surgery.

holding hands in the MoMA because that’s the kind of dream world we’re living in this weekend
Seeing myself actually like the way I look during this trip has been such an uplifting feeling! I’m happy that I’m taking steps towards self love and having friends who do nothing but support me 💕

A creative heart, obsessed with satisfying. This dormant and uncaring society u have given them the stars at night and u have given them Bountiful Bouquets of Sunflowers. But 4 u there is only contempt and though u pour yourself into that fame and present it so proudly this world could not accept your masterpieces from the heart. So on that starry night u gave 2 us and u took away from us the one thing we never acknowledged your life. – Tupac Shakur

OHHHH what a night for a homework date. love you 🧚🏻‍♀️✨
Get a shadow like mine😜😂

When I moved to NY at 21, I was totally broke with no friends. When it would get to be too much I would go to the MoMA and get an admission ticket from someone leaving. I’d spend a few hours there, and it was like going to church for me. I’d leave feeling a renewed courage to keep going. I never would have guessed that I’d meet Signe, or that we would make American Reflexxx in myrtle beach, but I especially never imagined we would show it at the MoMA some day. I’m thankful that I met her, I’m thankful for the endless late night conversations we had about art that lead us to making that piece. Thank you to my adopted NYC family, and to my real family, for coming to our screening. Having you there made it that much more special. 🌹❤️🌹❤️ shout out to @eyeslicer and @futureoffilmisfemale thank you for including us 💐💐💐

And so concluded the first public event of The Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Research Institute for the Study of Art from Latin America, Why the Indigenous Today?, a two-part program that explored the political, aesthetic, and critical approaches to the indigenous in contemporary culture in Latin America. Macarena Gómez-Barris, Professor and Director of the Global South Center (GSC) at Pratt Institute (far right) brilliantly moderated an impressive panel following presentations by (from left to right) architect Paulo Tavares, who discussed research methodologies for territorial activism in the Amazonas context, Benvenuto’s translator, Benvenuto Chavajay Ixtetela, who spoke about the issue of cultural translation for artists of indigenous background working in the field of contemporary art, and fashion designer Carla Fernández, who reflected on the concept of “tradition” and the politics of collaboration #cisnerosinstitute #indigenous #indigeneity #today

Kötü günümde yanımda olmadığın zaman vazgeçtim.
Canın sıkıldığında benimle paylaşmadığını,
kırılacak veya tedirgin olacak olsam bile
düşüncelerini açıkça söylemediğini anladığım zaman vazgeçtim.
Bana yalan söylediğini anladığım zaman vazgeçtim.
Gözlerime baktığında kalbinle bakmadığını,
ve bana hala söylemediğin şeyler oldugunu hissettiğimde vazgeçtim.
Her sabah benimle uyanmak istemediğini anladığımda,

I gave up on you when you weren't there for me on a bad day.
I gave up on you when you didn't share your troubles with me upfront, honestly.
I gave up on you when I realized you were lying to me.
I gave up on you when I noticed you weren't looking at me with your whole heart and you were hiding things from me.
I gave up on you when I realized you don't want to wake up with me everyday when I understand that we have no future together.
I gave up on you for not respecting my own thoughts and values.
I gave up on you when you didn't love me enough to cure my pain.
I gave up on you for considering your happiness and future and ignoring mine.
I gave up on you because I'm not able to draw myself happy and the reason behind this is only you.
I gave up on you for being selfish.
One single reason was not enough for me to give up on you, as my love for you is serene.
But when I thought about all these reasons, I noticed that you already gave up on me a long time ago.
But when I thought about all these reasons, I noticed that you already gave up on me a long time ago.
This is the reason why I had to give up on you.

MoMAnDad out here repping American Reflexxx this past Sunday night at @themuseumofmodernart in NYC. What an amazing honor, thank you so much to Eyeslicer + The Future of Film is Female for having us. The Q&A had us answer the question, “How does the body relate to your film?” The answer for Reflexxx is layered, but it is important to note how much transphobia + fear of an empowered femme body/sexuality, played into this. Swipe to watch, transcription is below. Shoutout to all the other filmmakers in this program, and an extra super special shout-out to my co-creator and forever Artner, @allicoates . I love you and am so thankful to have made this baby, our sweet psycho daughter Reflexxx, with you ⚡️💙⚡️ “I think that American Reflexxx has a lot to do with perception of gender identity and bodies and how we sort of… reflect and reflexxx off of each other. For me the idea was to take a hyperfeminine form.. you know you see these women on TV and in porn and in movies and they’re like, these sort of hyper-idealized, sexualized bodies. And what happens when you drop her into the middle of the street and maybe remove her identity or.. reflect her identity? She just becomes completely dehumanized. But I think one of the major threads of American Reflexxx, or major themes that we were not expecting was the rampant transphobia that came out of it, and just this like.. assumption that I’m hiding [a gendered identity]. And I really don’t think that the angry mob thought that I was a trans woman, I think that it was sort of an excuse to help them justify an anger or a rage that they couldn’t quite place [aka transphobia/latent misogyny]. And I feel like… on that evening I walked about a mile [down the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk]. I like to say that I walked a mile in a trans woman’s shoes but I absolutely can not even begin to imagine what that would really be like, and I can’t speak to that experience at all. But I do think that in terms of how the body plays into [this film], that’s a very major aspect of it, and I hope that the film can serve to maybe educate or put other people into the perception of what that lived experience might be like.”
I felt like a pimp yesterday 😂💚 Swipe for a closer look 👀 Coat: @missyempire #missygirl #missyempire

Tomorrow is the day that our grand supreme queen American Reflexxx screens at the Museum of Modern Art ⚡️Unfortunately the tickets are now sold out, but you can still view the film online at AmericanReflexxx.com . Share it with your friends, share it with your intolerant uncle, share it with anyone you think could benefit from seeing it. Art is meant to be shared.

American Reflexxx has been a really wild journey for @allicoates and I. From the night we went to the Myrtle Beach boardwalk to “film the cyborg walking around” (that’s how it began), to the night that we debuted it amongst all of our closest friends in the Miami at Bushwick Gone Basel (real heads know!!!), to the night that we uploaded it to YouTube in 2015 and watched it immediately go viral. This art has altered the way that I see the world and how I act within it, and it’s helped me affirm the idea that art can go beyond the art world and into the real world. The greatest reflexxxion of all is getting to feel the way that it makes other people feel— Alli and I call it “the reflexxx to Reflexxx”, and the conversations it spawns. I’m so excited to reflect and reflexxx on this crazy journey tomorrow at my favorite place. Thank you to Eyeslicer and The Future of Film is Female for curating this event. Xxxo ⚡️
