Day 4 of #strengthentheasana is Downward dog. I hated this pose when I first started my practice. I thought it was the craziest thing ever that this was considered a resting pose. About a year ago, it finally clicked with me and now I love this pose.

Final Day #aloasana101 is side crow🔥While I wouldn’t normally call this pose a beginner arm balance, I have noticed that new students either pick up crow or side crow first, so when @leighyogipilot suggested it, I thought yes let’s do it!
Swipe 👉🏼to see some tips that if you’re struggling will help you! Most people lock out the arm that isn’t touching the leg, so turn and actually look at your arm and tell it to bend, your face should be nearly touching the floor. Also, people’s feet usually get stuck underneath them, so walk your feet out to the side, you have to lean forward to get the hips up. Not getting it yet? Slide a block under your cheek and rest on it, tip your pelvis upward to lift the legs. Check out the video to see how to do this.
Thank you so much for participating or cheering us on in this beginner yoga challenge! Check out my inspiring co-hosts for more tips🤩
“The most haunting time at which to see them is at the turn of the moon, when they utter strange wailing cries; but the lagoon is dangerous for mortals then...” 🌕
This mermaid challenge reminds me of my favorite depiction of mermaids: the mean girl mermaids in JM Barrie’s Peter Pan.
I can’t put into words how AMAZING it feels to be working from home 😭🙏🏻. Setting my own schedule, being with my fur babies, talking to empowering woman all day long and actually being able to do yoga every damn day.
My practice has been slacking, hard. This week I’ve been focusing on building up my flexibility again!
If you have tight hips or working towards center slip flexibility, try this little warm up to help strengthen and create flexibility for your split 🍌
Heart Chakra’s meaning-
Located at the exact center of the chest, it corresponds not only to the heart but your lungs, thymus gland, and your cardiac plexus.
In Sanskrit, it is referred to as the Anahata which means unhurt, the spiritual place where past experiences and grievances cannot harm us.
The Anahata Chakra is associated with the color green, which stands for transformation and love energy.
I give and receive love, forgiveness and compassion to myself and others effortlessly and unconditionally.
My heart is filled with joy and gratitude.
Strengthens the back; opens the shoulders, chest, and quadriceps; boosts mood and energy.
Backbending is a journey into the nervous system and all of the emotions our nerves and sense organs can trigger—from fear to elation. When practiced slowly and safely, backbends like Ustrasana and Kapotasana have the power to reset your response to stress. Backbending trains the mind to remain equanimous in the face of adversity, requiring you to move carefully as you work with the limitations of your body and mind. As you extend your spine backward, you have to learn to distinguish between muscular and emotional intensity and between safe physical challenges and unsafe joint pain. Use your breath to cultivate a clear, calm mind, which can help you focus on and detect subtle sensations, such as strain within, rather than letting your ego be the driver of your asana practice, which can force your body into an aesthetic shape for which you may not be ready.
2. Lunge with backbend💛
5. Pigeon /Kapotasana
9. Standing backbend
10. Yogis Choice

Had the great fortune to speak at Utkal University today with my daughters by my side about my research on social endeavor along Odisha’s bauxite (aluminum) supply chain. If I lost you at bauxite, keep reading ...
I feel incredibly grateful to not only be living in this more deeply loving place (Odisha) but also to be so warmly welcomed into the scholarly community here. Keep reading ... seriously ... .
It is exhilarating moments of camaraderie like these that reaffirm to me just how exciting and addicting is the life of the mind.... yep, you guessed it: keep reading ...
I stayed home with my two daughters while on parental leave. And those were, honestly the hardest years of my life, because I did not have the support of an intellectual community and felt like just a mom struggling with mental health issues (because, yeah, new momhood is a mental health issue, dead serious, there need to be more support- hello family and friends- around this). .
While the academy can be so parochial and antiquated in its customs, today was especially sweet because my two daughters (3.5 & 4.5) were sitting next to me as I gave my research lecture. They read and played iPad games. And, it was profound. This is my messy life: mother, scholar, yogini. .
These sides of my reality do not need to live in separate spheres, indeed they should not. For anyone. Parents of any stripe should have accommodation and support so that they can reasonably feed their souls, earn a living, and raise their children well. Not everyone can be as lucky as I am to, umm, be upper middle class and white, and also to be an anthropologist (because, anthropology is seriously the coolest)
So, @ivankatrump get the business done so that families have the support they need to both lead fulfilling lives and parent meaningfully. .

✨In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.✨
This quote couldn’t resonate with me more at this moment.. sometimes on our journeys we find a plateau, almost in a mundane routine state.. where we are just existing. One in where we have what we need but knowing we could do and become more. Then you meet this soul one who shines bright from within one who brings that fire back into your life, one who inspires and uplifts you, one who just fits with you so perfectly (including your silliness) never making judgement or questioning.. life is never perfect there will always be ebbs and flows.. so why not surround yourself with some who will inspire you, challenge you to be your best and above all be there for you no matter what.
I love ∞ sis @galaortin .
Matching in our fave combination @aloyoga 💕✨
All the Friday feels ahead of a 3 day weekend 😄
Starting the weekend with a dinner date tonight with my husband and probably too much red wine. But first I gotta get through few hours of work, ahh adulting sucks sometimes.
He secretly loves being married to me even when I cleanse the energy in the our home, make him eat veggie meals and put essential oils on him haha.
Also (without sounding too arrogant) how cute will our babies be... 👶🏼 #throwbackthursday
Future goals and dreams are wholly dependant upon what we do right now. Therefore future is completely irrelevant if you don’t make TODAY count. Work hard today and laugh even harder. Learn from yesterday but don’t dwell on it. Be present ☺️
In 2010 I was travelling alone for few months trough North India, I had a one way ticket and no particular destination.
Whilst in Bihar someone suggested me to travel north to Haridwar and Rishikesh and so I did.
Arriving in Haridwar was one of the scariest things I have ever experienced, back in 2010 Haridwar was hosting Kumbh Mela, the biggest and busiest religious celebration on the planet, literally millions gather together every 12 years to pray and bath in mother Ganga.
What a coincidence of me being there!
It was overwhelming and I couldn’t even walk as I was pushed in every direction from this humongous wave of humans.
Many of them were covered in ashes and naked, long dreadlocks, chanting in direction of this people fulled river.
I remember reaching Rishikesh at 4am and not knowing where to sleep, randomly picked a place to sleep and knock at their door.
The next day i learned that @akhanda_yoga was not a hostel but an ashram and that there, you could practice yoga and meditation.
I ended up staying a month... What a beautiful journey it has been, what was your first yoga experience?
Super excited for next couple of days as I get to teach 4 yoga classes!
Reflecting back on my YTT now I’m so glad I did it. It made me step out of my comfort zone massively and I feel like I have changed and have grown a lot since then. To anyone that is contemplating doing a Yoga Teacher Training I couldn’t recommend it more - DO IT!
To anyone going through Yoga Teacher Training currently or having doubts and nerves about teaching, I promise you it gets easier (plus always good to be nervous, shows you care and want to do well). And remember to GROW you must embrace the DISCOMFORT.
It’s scary and uncomfortable, but worth it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
P.S. Reposting this pic from Tuesday when I got to teach at @princestrust because I deleted it by accident earlier 🤦🏼♀️ #yogateachertraining
I have been really enjoying learning more about more eco friendly and sustainable living. I’m enjoying all the small changes we are making at home and exploring any bigger ones we could do... Here are some changes we have implemented:
- Bamboo toilet paper that doesn’t come wrapped in plastic
- Stopped buying kitchen roll
- Natural deodorant (for me only husband isn’t into that)
- Bamboo toothbrush (husband only, I have an electric toothbrush)
- Natural skincare that comes in glass packaging and isn’t tested on animals.
- Eating a lot less meat. Buy from butchers and support local farmers whenever we buy meat.
- Bamboo ear buds.
Some other changes I’d like to implement with time are natural make up (waiting for current one to run out), solar panels for the house, electric car, trying beeswax wraps instead of cling film and stop buying teas bags and buy teas leaves instead (waiting for current supply to tea to run of to implement this). These are changes that suit my lifestyle... In no way am I perfect or am I preaching.
Just sharing my new love ☺️ Happy Friday!
Your time and your complete attention is your greatest gift to others.
I honestly believe that, time is so precious and full attention is so rare these days when we’re constantly surrounded by distractions everywhere. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I value time more than anything, it’s priceless. You can never buy time, borrow time or give back time. And for that reason if you know me you know I’m never late. I don’t like wasting someone else’s time or taking it for granted.
But when it comes to complete attention it is something I struggle with sometimes.
I catch myself being on my phone and telling my husband “don’t worry I’m still listening” - which is true but also means I am not giving my full attention to him and that I am distracted. I definitely have a lot of room for improvement in that department.
‘This morning, let go of everything you didn’t do right, the negative things people have said, and focus on all you are becoming.‘ ✨🙏🏼💛💫 -
Perfect little reminder that I’ll definitely apply to myself..
