I’ve been watching “Find Me in Paris” which is about a teenage ballerina who is in the year 1905, but accidentally time travels to 2018 and has to navigate around modern dancing and technology while her boyfriend in 1905 figures out how to get her back while being chased by three steampunk dudes. It is every bit cheesy as it sounds and I’m obsessed.
In a dance performance for the ages, 75 years ago the Nicholas Brothers dazzled audiences with their acrobatic routine to Jumpin’ Jive. The routine was unrehearsed and what you see was the first take! ⠀

The same owner behind Taco Bar, the venerable taqueria in Gaithersburg also owns Ixtapalapa, a brick and mortar counterpart to the no-frills original that’s famously housed inside a gas station. ——————— In contrast, as a free standing restaurant, Ixtapalapa actually feels like a restaurant. With a large kitchen and what seems like an army of worker bees cooking up the meats, slicing, and dicing and prepping the taco fixin’s. There’s also a relatively spacious dining room. And, restrooms! —————— Ixtapalapa also offers a broader range of tacos. And, I took advantage of that. Getting what Taco Bar doesn’t offer: the fish taco (pescado), beef cheek (cachete), and slow roasted pork (cochinita pibil). —————- The quality is first rate. Just excellent tacos. Particularly, the beef cheek taco. It’s a luscious cut of beef. And, the kitchen prepares it flawlessly. ———— Ixtapalapa is to Montgomery County what Taco Bamba is to Northern Virginia. Offering, respectively, the best tacos on its side of the Potomac River. But, unlike Taco Bamba, Ixtapalapa doesn’t deviate from its Mexican focus. There aren’t any fusion tacos, for instance. Ones that feature Korean chicken or gochujang. Or permutations of that ilk. But, frankly, they don’t have to. They know what they’re doing. And, they do it exceptionally well. ———————
