❄ Bare Naked Birds: Honey! ❄ "My cleavage is covered, that’s all that matters!" Honey is a wild caught macaw - she is at least 33 years old, perhaps much older! We don’t know a lot of detail about her early years; she had at least 3 homes before coming to Zazu’s in 2014. She spent 5 years in an early home, then the next 20 years with one family. She was loved by this family, but they didn’t understand Honey’s needs. Honey was kept in a cage without any toys to occupy her and there were no windows in the room for her to look out of. When the family wanted to travel in their later years they gave Honey to a lady who wanted to improve Honey’s life.
When the lady got Honey, she was in poor physical condition and very plucked, but Honey was friendly and well behaved, stepping-up easily. To stop Honey plucking, the lady tried all sort of things; medications, neck collars and even sweater socks! She gave Honey a large cage, with lots of toys and let Honey spend lots of time outside the cage - but nothing worked. After 8 years of trying to help Honey stop plucking, the woman began to think that Honey needed more freedom and companionship to truly thrive - so she brought Honey to Zazu’s!
We hope you’ll agree Honey looks really good, especially being drug and sock-free. Honey wants to remind you, cover up it’s cold outside!
