My mother named me Nathasha after an actress she use to admire. A Russian name for a girl born in an orthodox middle-class ‘halwai’ family in Ludhiana didn’t really blend in. From a young age I had anger issues. Everyone around looked down upon me & it became difficult to express myself as a child. Constant remarks on how should a girl not behave unleashed the rebel in me who said, ‘To hell with them, I will shape my own life’. My parents left me with my maternal grandparents in Patiala, a small town in Punjab, to seek a better future for all of us in Hong-Kong. I remember the struggle they underwent for several years in order to provide for the family. I saw the hardship and wanted to break them free from it. I wanted to make it big in life. There were several factors for my behavior and will. I wanted to prove that not only could I do anything a guy could but also in a much better manner. I wanted to give my parents a comfortable life. Hence, I started working at 14, began my own company at 19 and hustled my way. Being financially independent gave me a lot of freedom. From being an unwanted girl child to running a multimillion-dollar company today, the journey has been one hell of a ride. From constant negative remarks from naysayers, fighting gender stereotypes, sleepless nights and the worst of all - self-doubt, became my blessings in disguise. ‘Every fraction of negativity has the potential to be turned into a purpose stronger than any pullback.’ I still apply all of this to my life today even though my view towards money and success has changed. Money is an important tool as long as you are utilizing it well and for a greater purpose for society. My heart is full of gratitude for the amazing set of family and friends I have and that I am always busy which is a blessing. I am working on things that were once out of my wildest imagination. I have embraced my inner ‘angry young girl’ and it has put me on a path of self-love and understanding the greater purpose in life.
