1. Select the right mentor(s)
Making the right selection of mentor is crucial. It is rare to find a single person who can offer everything a mentee needs.
Sometimes, you’ll be seeking a role model: someone who is the kind of person you’d like to be. But to advance your work you may also need someone with content expertise, or someone with influence in a field, who has a wide network of contacts.
2. Be respectful of your mentor’s time and manage it wisely
Your mentor’s time is precious. Anyone who is qualified to be a mentor is likely to have many other mentees and commitments. The mentee who respects a mentor’s time and finds ways of using it productively is best placed to benefit from mentorship. You must therefore be proactive in scheduling appointments with your mentor.
3. Communicate efficiently and effectively with your mentor
communication requires substantial effort and preparation on the part of the mentee. Mentors can only be of assistance if they understand your goals and activities, are aware of any obstacles, and perceive how they might help you to overcome such barriers.
4. Be engaged, energising, and collaborative
Mentors prefer people who are fun to work with, energetic, and wholly committed. Emotionally draining behaviours, such as complaining, pessimism, and “snarking” about others will not endear you to your mentor.
Mentees need to show that they are mature and genuinely open to learning, without making their mentors assume responsibility for their emotional wellbeing.

I am 5 months into full time blogging and if you ask me to say the pillar word, I would say - grit. Full time blogging is online entrepreneurship and no form of enterpreneurship has ever survived without grit. Ask around. There are days that you go in to check your analytics and you find out it's not what you have projected. As a full time Blogger, traffic is everything. Maybe not for membership, super niched or exclusive service based sites but for a lifestyle Blogger who needs to earn from Ads, sponsored posts, collaborations, Ad space sales etc, you need the numbers. You need a pretty good audience. So you learn how and when to buckle up and when to relax for recharge. When I decided and finally set out, I was not afraid. I knew I had what it takes. That initial confidence was all I needed. After my first month, my income was double what I earned as a 9 to 5er. So, I was going to have time flexibility, would never think of what to wear to work, would not jump buses, would passionately love what I do and at the same time earn much more than I would if I never? After that month, I looked to increase my sources of income as a full time Blogger and it dawned on me. These oyinbo Bloggers who come online to say they earn $10,000 monthly are not lying after all. It is indeed possible! But grit. You need to be consistent here. You need to be patient, resilient, happy, ready to learn and tough. Have you ever considered full time / career blogging? If you have, why haven't you gone for it yet? What are your challenges?
An interviewer's first impression is often a lasting one, so the way you present yourself during an interview is important, and because we care, here are some tips:
If you're in doubt about how to dress for an interview, it is best to err on the side of conservatism. It is also much better to be overdressed than underdressed (or undressed). If you're not sure, check with the person who scheduled the interview and ask. But check these out;
Women's Professional Interview Attire
Solid color, conservative suit
Neat, professional hairstyle
Tan or light hosiery
Sparse makeup and perfume
Portfolio or briefcase
Men's Professional Interview Attire
Solid color, conservative suit
White long sleeve shirt
Dark socks, professional shoes
Very limited jewelry
Neat, professional hairstyle
Go easy on the aftershave
Neatly trimmed nails
Portfolio or briefcase
Tag your friend who has an interview!

We are bombarded in the US with commercials and about white, glow in the dark white, teeth.
Some people really go to the extreme. I'm waiting for extreme tooth whitingvto be linked to some kind of cancer.
Why am I talking about teeth?
Because teeth play a BIG role in your health.
Like Gingivitis which can lead to heart problems.
Smiling is important when you interview.
When you don't show your teeth when you smile people wonder if there is something wrong with your teeth.
Will you miss a lot of work, or be difficult to work with because tooth pain?
Is your smile natural or fake, do you use that crazy power smile that doesn't reach your eyes? People do notice these things.
I didn't smile much because my teeth are not straight and they are a natural ivory color instead of white.
Then, at my 1st full-time job my co-workers encourage me to smile. Surprise, instead of being teased or bullied like I had been in school, people smiled back!
Some people even told me that they liked how my face and eyes would light up when I smiled.
And, being honest here, I didn't always take could care of my teeth. So I have lost a few over the last 6 years. But today's dentistry is so much better than it was.
I will get my partial in a few weeks and they will try to make them look as natural as possible.
Take care of your skin and take care of your teeth.

So, LinkedIn is actually the #1 way I've created opportunities for myself as a professional and as a business owner. 🏆 I've been recruited to better, higher paying jobs twice because of LinkedIn (before starting my business.) with pay increases of >35% both times. -
As a business owner, LinkedIn has brought me new clients, new speaking engagements and helped me establish myself as a thought leader. ❌ I don't have **thousands** of followers. ❌ I don't have a fancy degree from an Ivy League school. ❌ I don't have hundreds of awards or certifications. ❌ -
I have experience, sincerity and a clear focus on the value I can bring to my clients. That's how my profile is able to bring me exactly what I need. I get that it's hard to do a ton of extra stuff as a foster/special needs parent. But you CAN be a successful professional and parent, and having a stellar LinkedIn profile will help you do that. So let me help you achieve your business or career goals with a LinkedIn makeover!! I'm giving one away for FREE in this contest. To enter: follow us on Instagram and tag a friend you know who's also a career driven Foster/Special Needs parent! Extra entries for subscribing to our newsletter, following us elsewhere on social media and for every F/SNP friend you tag. 😊🙌🏼

Skin health is just as important as any other part of physical health.
Just as important as mental health, too.
You want to look your best for interviews, any interview, not just the face-to-face.
Your face, and possibly hands, are what the interviewer see on a video interview. And, the camera often shows your faults very clearly.
So, it's important to take care of your skin. If you try to hide under make-up you can easily look fake, you know, like you're wearing a mask.
Don't forget to brush your teeth and hair.
You know how you have opinions about the people you meet? The way they look, or the way they dress? The interviewers will have opinions about you as well.
Keep the make-up toned down, and your clothing appropriate.
Take care of ALL of your skin. People are going to shake your hand. How do your hands feel to them? Are they cracked and bleeding? Gross!
If the skin on your arms and legs are visible make sure they're clean and moisturized.
Forget that old saying "it's the clothes that make the man". It's the person wearing the clothes that make the clothes look good.
Investing in yourself now will return bucket loads in the future. 🔮
I talk a lot about this on Financially Mint - how taking the time to build career capital and explore career paths will allow you to find a career of best personal fit, which will then make you the money you need.
But it is true that I am personally at the very start of this journey, and so can't offer many examples of this working. 🤷♀️ Well today, this changes as I interview the Financial Gladiator, who did exactly that.
He went to university to study business in Poland, and finished his masters in Australia. In the meantime, he was doing internships, making connections, building skills and beefing up his portfolio.
He says it himself: ' I always looked to add experience and skills to my repertoire rather than dollars' 💸.
7 internships later in several different countries and industries and a lot of hustling, moving around and learning about what career fitted him best, FG ended up in a job that paid him a six figure salary. This kept on snowballing, and in his early thirties he hit a salary of over $500,000. .
That goes to show how much investing in yourself can return in the future.
$500,000 annual salary doesn't need to be your goal, but it still goes to show that you'll make the bulk of your money after investing in your own career. 📈
A great interview filled with actionable career advice and FG's complete story, check out FM's latest blog post! (Edinburgh castle 🔥)
At the beginning of this year I made a promise to myself that I would re-up my commitment to mental and emotional health. A busy and complicated life has the tendency to throw me off in those spaces most.
While empathy is a valuable skill, being a natural empath is both a blessing and a curse. There is a constant renegotiation of self-care, boundaries and relationship priorities. Balancing the giving and receiving is key.
There is a belief I see out there that tells us selflessness is the ultimate good. There is also a behavior I see in the world that is deeply self absorbed and individualized. And if I have learned anything so far this year, it is that the middle way, between these two ways of being, is the path to contentment.
I feel content. And while I digress, and then forgive myself, I am sure that this well-intentioned chop wood carry water life, is precisely the life I am meant to live.
This summer I am embarking on a new professional journey as a consultant. And I could not do that, if I did not feel like this. I’m so grateful for my determination to be well, to translate that wellness to doing good in the world, and all the support from folks in my life to do just that.
I hope you are getting what you need to thrive, y’all. Stay tuned. #awareness#consultantlife#careerbuilding#makeadifference#cancerthriver#emotionalhealth#mentalhealth
People always ask me how and why I am juggling multiple things at once. Well here’s a little blurb about it 😁. Most people mismanage regular life activities and have no time for productivity, this quadrant by Stephen R. Covey is BAE ❤️
