I wanna know your thoughts regarding the unofficial top 12 of senatoriable candidates, comment below.
Things may look bleak post-election but more than ever and as if not yet, there's never been a time our sleeves need to get dirty (forget about rolling them up!) for the hard work of nationbuilding. Some old dynasties and incumbents of Metro Manila are out and a new Baguio mayor is in -- see, it isn't so hard to find patches of color here and there. Chin up, fist up, Pilipinas kong Mahal! ❤
Looking at the poll updates doesn't inspire much hope, it feels very much like a deadend, history repeated in the most atrocious way. So instead of ranting, I will just want to highlight this girl who I met a few months ago. She wanted their forest back, taken by corporate loggers decades before she was even born and so she planted a tree. As a society, we need to ask WHERE DOES REAL CHANGE HAPPEN? The Young are inheriting problems they did not create and we forget that the future we are creating is for them 💔 #hope#electionph#empowertheyouth#fuckpolitics#change
ELLA DEFEATS MAGSIE
It was mixed emotions for Moises Padilla Vice Mayor Ella Garcia-Yulo following her overwhelming win in the mayoral race against incumbent Mayor Magdaleno Peña in yesterday’s elections.
She garnered 13,056 votes against Peña’s 5,493, or 70.38 percent of the total votes.
The town has more than 26,000 registered voters. Of whom, 20,274 voted yesterday.
Her running mate, Ian Villaflor, also had an overwhelming win with 13,612 votes while his opponent, Antonio Suatengco, only had 3,714 votes.
Yulo never really got to campaign much as she was in prison when the election period started. She was released early April after she, along with her husband, posted bail for illegal possession of explosive charges. The couple was arrested in December 2017 at a police checkpoint for her supposed possession of firearms, explosives, and drugs.
She was detained at the Negros Occidental District Jail in Bago City when she filed her Certificate of Candidacy for mayor of Moises Padilla town in October last year.
She also survived an ambush on April 25, just weeks after she was released from prison, but her brother and nephew were killed.
Yulo said this is a bittersweet win for her due to loss of the lives of her loved ones.
She said her win means that the people want the mayor out of their municipality. “This is a clear statement of Moises Padilla. Mayor Magsie, puli ka gid sa Pulupandan (Mayor Magsie, you should go home to Pulupandan). Puli na Pulupandan (go home to Pulupandan),” she stressed.
Pulupandan is the hometown of Peña, where he was also the former mayor.
Peña is the uncle of Yulo and they were actually running mates in the 2016 elections.
Yulo said she made a mistake of endorsing Peña in the last elections because her family paid a heavy price for it.
Moises Padilla was placed under the control of the Commission on Elections in the wake of the killings.
Day 1 as an election intern: done! ✅
As someone who grew up and enjoyed watching local and international news, it is my dream to be able to work at CNN Philippines. ❤️ God surely knows how to surprise people like me. 😅
Here I am spending my last few days as a college student, and this opportunity to become a volunteer intern comes along. 🤗
Of course, I did not think twice and signed myself up right away! 😅
CNN Philippines has really earned its stripes and has become one of the trusted news sources for the Filipinos. 🇵🇭 I can still remember its humble beginnings when it started broadcasting 4 years ago. 😅
For the latest election news, especially about the partial and unofficial results, stay tuned to #thefilipinovotes, @cnnphilippines’ special coverage for #newsyoucantrust. 🙌🏻 Working in news really is no joke but
Pilipinas, in the name of journalism, this is for you! 🇵🇭 #thestoryofthefilipino#attheheartofthestory
The right to have your say on how your country is run. The right to show that the power of democracy is still within the hands of the citizens. The right to hope for a better and prosperous future for our nation. The right to suffrage.
I had to wait in line for hours due to technical problems but how about you,did you cast your votes?
I am...indelible 🤣 Getting my finger stained with the indelible ink is such a small price to pay for the privelege to vote and make my voice heard. God bless Pilipinas and hoping that only the deserving candidates will be declared winners! #votewisely#electionph
"Yes, I exercised my right to vote but I regret it."
First, I got here at 7am because they said the schedule is 6am to 6pm. But the ballots arrived at 8:06am. I am sure of this because I looked at my phone when they passed by me while i was in line outside the school gates. We waited in line and finally got to vote at almost 3pm, but with all the drama of the people in line. screaming and fighting. We were like sandwiches. Like no space between one person to the other. When i filled up my ballots, I was excited to feed it to the PCOS machine. But wait! the machine was malfunctioning. Why I regret, you ask? The ballots are then put on the table with full access to anyone who want to fill it up or throw it away. Why Philippines? You frustrate me, every election day. *EDIT* While I was inside the voting room to get my ballot, I only needed to find my name on the list which had mt picture and digital signature on it. All i did was sign it by pen. No need for IDs or thumbmarks or any other verification that you are that person. I simply thought this election is soooo rigged.
Disclaimer: not a coffee drinker, but since puyat watching NBA Live kaninang madaling araw, coffee is a must to vote with energy and wisely later. #freenbaleaguepass#electionph
A floss and sisig bun with coffee plus cheese tart (not mine, allergic to it).
Like you, I'm tired of seeing the potentials of this country to be great again and for its people to be living way better than what we have now all go to waste. From the resources to manpower, we have all the ingredients to prosper but great leaders. If we still hope that we can turn this country around, then we should start from within ourselves. Today is another day when financial status, religious affiliation and sexual orientation doesn't matter. A time when playing the field is leveled. Let's take this advantage to exercise our right to suffrage for our forefathers fought for it. If our elders are able to get up early to cast their votes, then there should be no reason for us to disregard our future. Let us not be discouraged for a possibility of cheating, but pray for a clean conscience when casting our votes. As a Filipino, I'm asking my fellowmen, find it inside you to help move this country FORWARD.... #election2019#electionph#morningmotivation#goodmorning#couple#love#motivation
