The American war of independance part 5 (end) - Yorktown
As mentioned in the previous part of this series, the war was largely in favour of the British until the battle of the Saratoga. After this, the french had confidence in the revolutionaries, and offered support. The Yorktown campaign, which culminated in the siege of Yorktown, ultimately ended the war with the surrender of the british forces under Cornwallis. The continental army under Washington, combined with the French under the Comte de Rochembeau , captured around 7000 troops, prompting the British government to negotiate an end to the conflict. This came in the treaty of Paris in 1783.
