Growing up, many of us were made to believe that the brighter our hair was in our protective styles, the more it would encourage growth because we were (still are) very much obsessed with length over the health of our hair.
I used to get annoyed growing up when my braids weren't tight thinking they'd fall off at night and getting sores around my hairline because of the pulling of my hair.
