Maakapu’u lighthouse is at the southeastern most point of the beautiful island of Oahu. It had one of the largest fresnel lenses In the United States as part of its navigation beacon, but now uses a light bulb instead. This hike is one of the most popular ones in Honolulu and will leave you with rewards worth way more than the effort. The total hike is about 2.5 miles RT but is on a well paved path, only downside being lack of shade. On clear days the island of Molokai and Lanai are easily visible across the ka’lwi channel. It is very easy to spot North Pacific humpback whales as they migrate from Alaska to the warmer waters of Hawaii for the birthing season. The invisible line that divides the dark and light blue in the ocean apparently demarcates the different tides, and this is the magic trick to spotting whales here- they like to play and frolic along this invisible lines, especially the young ones as they develop their motor skills. February is peak whale watching season and if you spot one, wait a bit- it usually means there are more under water, and whales can hold their breath up to more than twenty minutes before having to come up near the surface. The weather here is notorious, like any good tropical winter season should be. There was a sudden downpour for about three minutes, casting a misty shroud over everything and drenching the unsuspecting hikers. Then it cleared up again in no time and was sunny, almost making you rethink if it had really rained. The vistas at every bend make this a worthwhile hike no matter if you make it to the summit or not, and suitable for all ages/fitness levels. There are beautiful tide pools below where a lot of colorful fish can be spotted up close . #hawaii#makapuu#tidepools#pacific#blue#ocean#lighthouse#whalewatching#fish#honolulu#nature#hike#beautiful

MIGHTY HEI TIKI
The Tiki is a very ancient symbol and is by far the least understood. There are a number of legends in relation to its meaning. Some say the Tiki came from the stars and that he was the first man of the world. Other theories state that tiki represents the human embryo. He is believed to have a strong link to the sea - often being depicted with webbed feet.
Perhaps the most accepted meaning of the Tiki is fertility. Often carved with the hands placed on the loins in what is believed to be a direct reference to fertility.
Tiki was respected as the teacher of all things and the wearer of this symbol is therefore seen to possess clarity of thought, loyalty, great inner knowledge and strength of character.
Tiki is also believed to bring good luck and keep evil spirits away.

Most of my days are spent at this studio...a studio I call "my home away from home". 🏡
It's been a year since we got the keys to our studio at 401 Kamakee St. Suite 201. A lot of hard work went into building this studio, and it wasn't me who built an additional room, painted, added flooring, and chose the major decor in the studio. It was my amazing husband, @stephenhawaii who worked through the days often late evenings putting this all together for me. Today, I had the chance to walk around the studio to take these pictures. It made me realize how much my husband has done for me and continues to do for me/us. Running a business is HARD WORK. We are a team, and to be honest he handles more of the business than I do so that I'm able to take appointments and be the artist I am. I would never have been able to do any of this with out him. Cheers to my husband for sticking by my side through all of this. Also, thank you to all the girls in my studio who have made this past year a GREAT first year! 😘😘😘 @nitaesthetics@thewaxroombymandie@firstname.lastname@example.org@lash.appeal.by.natalie@adrienne_at_zoelashpro@tarynn_zoelashpro@lashesbyleah_zoelashpro@christina_zoelashpro@lashesbyakiko_zoelashpro
