What an incredible day, two weeks ago, when we were visiting a girls school in Dadaab, Kenya, in the refugees camps area, at the border with Somalia. And while talking with the director about the impact of movies in introducing subjects like women's rights, we proposed to have a pilot screening session for the students. And here we were, after 12 minutes of preparing the computer lab, trying to make it a little bit darker, right there in the middle of the desert, by using some sheets of paper, we were ready for the screening. And we were inviting the audience to watch a short documentary realized by our friends and partners from Onion Films, from Kathmandu.
The short was realized within the Young Cuts! program where young women from Nepal were trained in movie making techniques, and then they had to come up with a subject for their final work to finalize the course. It was a powerful documentary and we had a discussion afterwards. It was incredible to see the reactions and also the openness of both the girls and the professors to make this a regular thing.
