Expectations...a fascinating concept to me. —
This is a post I had planned on doing, but after a great post yesterday by @hannahmoves as well as subsequent discussions along with @dr.surdykapt I decided to post it now. —
Will post a second one soon —
Have been examining this concept clinically for some time, but more recently in the research arena. —
Patients often have overly optimistic expectations from surgery. See the Mannion et al study. —
In over 50% of patients, their expectations had not been met post surgery for
3️⃣general function —
At some point we all have overly optimistic expectations. My physique in 2007, continuing to today for example. 😃 —
This brings up a few questions. 1️⃣ I will ask now. ❓do we try to modify their expectations ❓is it a learning behavior as I demonstrate with Lola. Her bone pills are very chalk like and do NOT taste good to her. —
I ‘conditioned’ her over time to believe they were treats. Where she used to not take them, now she can’t wait to get them. —
They are the same chalky pills. —
Obviously, humans are different. ❓Do we even attempt behavior change like this ❓what are pros/cons ❓thoughts ❓questions ❓comments
