This immense structure stands tall in the middle of the city. At night it shines beneath the moon and during the day it looks like a sand sculpture, powdery almost, but magnificent.
Our Earth gives us Everything: air we need to breath, water we need to survive, food we need nourish, a place for not only for Us but the 8.7 million forms of life we share it with, a Home. Our Earth is Everything. I have spent the last week in the most remote temple complexes of Angkor, and in coming back to the real world today I was exultant to see all the posts, emails, messages, and videos all in support of Earth Day.
Never has there been a day more worth celebrating.
Whether you are high on a mountaintop or deep underwater, frozen in the arctic cold, sweating in the jungle heat (like me at our camp in the Cambodian jungle where this photo was captured) or sitting in your own backyard; Stop for a moment, and appreciate this incredible place we call home. This Earth is more remarkable than can be ever expressed. Regardless of what we think separates us, the Earth is something we all have in common - and we can all do better. We all have to do better.
The first Earth Day was April 22, 1970 when 20 million Americans from coast to coast came together and rallied for environmental reform. Since then Earth Day has gone on to gain international recognition as a time to celebrate the earth and take action.
But there is still more to be done. Polar caps are still warming faster than ever. We are still losing plant and animal species daily. It’s time to make a difference, and every small gesture counts.
It seems like something that should already be, so if you, like me, believe that Earth Day should be a recognised national holiday, and even a recognised holiday around the world, please consider signing the petition (link is in my bio). It’s a small step in the right direction. Awareness is the start of everything, and every little thing makes a difference.
Think Globally, Act Locally. Do what you can. Start small; Our Earth provides everything for us, about time we all did more to return the favour. 🌏 #earthday
