The clavicle is a bone located in the axial skeleton and is a crucial bone for several reasons that we will briefly discuss.  I hurt my clavicle working out 🙄. If you know where the clavicle bone is give a tap on the ❤️. The clavicle bones is one of the few S shaped bones in the body and it is designed like this because it helps to balance the fascia system of the upper extremities and as well helps to absorb forces when we fall or a trauma occurs.  Primarily it has two joints: SC (steno-clavicular) and AC (acromio-clavicular) joints.  I have dislocated my AC joint several times and it is extraordinarily painful, difficult to rehabilitate, and frustrating.  What can happen, and this has happened to me, is it creates a step in the AC joint as seen in the first slide.  I have a protruding bump on my shoulder and every once in a while it flares up and it’s painful but there are a few rehab exercises I do and it helps greatly.  If you have this step in your shoulder, unfortunately it’s there and it won’t go away because of the healing system scar tissue builds and that’s primarily why it won’t go back to normal. Through treatments, physiotherapy, meditation, acupuncture and Pilates can help you to reduce pain, return range of motion, reduce friction and get you back to your activity. ‼️ 📚Medical guidelines “strongly” discourage the use of MRI and X-ray in diagnosing low back pain, because they produce so many false alarms 👉They don’t always make false alarms, of course. MRI is a miracle technology, no doubt about it — the ability to get clear images of soft tissues deep inside the body is valuable, and extremely tempting for everyone involved.MRI can shine when it’s actually needed and done well.

But the sad truth is that it’s not needed anywhere near as much as it is actually used, and it’s especially not needed for most low back pain.

Imaging often just fails to clarify the situation, or it actually muddies the diagnostic waters. A mountain of scientific evidence clearly suggests that back pain correlates really, really badly with these test results. ‼️
✍️Many people with no pain have all kinds of things “wrong” with their backs, and vice versa. Many problems revealed by scans that seem like “obvious” problems are not. 📖For instance, not only do at least half of “slipped” discs return to where they belong just fine on their own,but it’s actually the worst ones that are the most likely to resolve on their own.And so the diagnosis and treatment often goes spinning off in the wrong direction. 📌Hip internal rotation (HIR) is very important in sport and performance training. ‼️
🖌Here are a few examples:
1️⃣During a change of direction or when making a cut HIR helps decelerate the body while also loading the hip allowing for a powerful reacceleration.
2️⃣When sprinting HIR allows an athlete to maximally extend their hip and get over the stance leg at terminal stance/toe off, thus improving stride length.
3️⃣For rotational athletes in golf, baseball, tennis, etc. HIR is crucial for optimizing force transfer from the lower extremity to the upper extremity.
4️⃣When squatting adequate HIR allows the femoral hide to remain centrated within the acetabulum allowing for a “cleaner” pattern free of compensation at the lumbar spine/knees/ankles. 🔴 Limitations in hip total rotational range of motion (IR + ER) have been linked to increased risk for 🔸adductor strain 🔸 increased Low back pain
📚 Xinning et al., found decreased hip internal rotation and total arc of motion are associated with in-season hip, hamstring, and groin injuries among MLB players. 📖What to take home: ⁉️
IR is an essential movement occurring at the hip joint to maintain functional level of activities. 👉Try to slot this EXERCISE within your Stretching and mobility routine. ✍️10-12 reps each side, x3set, slowly and controlled. ❤️Tag a friend if you think it will benefit from this exercise.

What is proprioception and why is it important in rehabilitation?  Proprioception is the ability of the body to know where it is in space which aids in movement, balance, and awareness.  More simplified, where am I in space?  If you like me you love proprioception tap the♥️.
When you sprain your ankle, for example, it’s not just the ligaments that become injured but the messages that are carried/sent to the CNS and back are also greatly affected and this is called the proprioceptive feedback system.  It’s important to rehabilitate these mechanoreceptors in order to reduce pain, prevent re-occurring injury, ensure that the structure affected can return back to function and just as important for the pain signals (nociception) to cease firing.  This includes the cerebellum, the vestibule and sensory motor cortex; all working together.  This is why exercise rehabilitation, physiotherapy, Pilates and other therapeutic modalities are just as important as any treatment.  Remember, it’s not just about getting a treatment it’s also about prevention and this achieved with balance exercises, stability exercises and even specific stretches that will encourage and promote the body’s self healing mechanisms.  If a therapist provides you with exercises or stretches you should be diligently cause more then likely they work.  We can help encourage the healing process and refer you to a physiotherapist, Chiro, and or maybe Pilates or yoga to get exercises and aid with your healing.

When you sprain your ankle the ligaments get a lot to endure. They can tear or distort. Not only the ligaments, but also the bones which they are attached to get to process this impact. -

Lower Crossed Syndrome [Common Muscle Imbalance]

This is a bit of a complicated post by @theprehabguys, but it is definitely worth the read, particularly in understanding why you may have chronic or recurrent pelvic imbalances. 
This post is a fantastic explanation of one of the most common presentations I deal with. Not only does it affect low back pain, but also without proper stability through the pelvis, any upper body complaints will never properly resolve!

Many have asked about common muscle imbalances- so here it is! 
Dr. Vladamir Janda was a Czech neurologist and physiatrist who termed “Lower crossed Syndrome” based on a predictable muscle imbalance in the movement system. After touching on this muscle imbalance yesterday we would like to delve a little more into what is entails.

Lower crossed syndrome is characterized by hypertonicity AKA tight muscles of the thoraco-lumbar extensors, rectus femoris, and iliopsoas, as well as inhibition of the abdominals (particularly transversus abdominus) and the glutes. By using this classification, clinicians can begin to predict patterns of tightness and weakness in the sensorimotor system’s attempt to reach homeostasis.

Janda noted that these changes in muscular tone create a muscle imbalance-> movement dysfunction. Muscles prone to tightness generally have a “lowered threshold to be activated” and are readily activated with any movement, thus creating abnormal movement patterns. These imbalances and movement dysfunctions have a direct effect on joint surfaces, which may lead to joint wear and tear over time.  In some cases, joint degeneration may be a direct source of pain, but the actual CAUSE of pain is often secondary to muscle imbalance.

Technisch ist in der Annäherung an dieses Gelenk wichtig, dass Du Dir vorher auch die umliegenden Gelenke und Einflussfaktoren ansiehst. Wie den unteren Rücken und die Hüfte 🦵🏻. Bevor Du mit spezifischen Test beginnst, gibt es die Möglichkeit der groben Orientierung über den FABERE-Test oder auch Viererzeichen / Patrick‘s Test.

Der Patient liegt dabei in Rückenlage und Du führst sein Bein in:
F - Flexion
AB - Abduktion
ER - Externe Rotation / Außenrotation
E - Extension, anschließend über das Lösen deiner Hand am Knie fällt das Bein in Richtung Extension.

Dies führst Du passiv beim Patienten aus, indem Du seine Ferse zum gegenüberliegenden Knie bewegst.

So haben wir die oben beschriebenen Parameter eingestellt und nun beginnt die Analyse 🤔. Äußert der Patient in dieser entspannten Position einen Leistenschmerz, kann dies ein Hinweis auf eine Pathologie der Hüfte und / oder der angrenzenden Muskulatur sein.

Nun führst Du als Therapeut am flektierten Knie und am gegenüberliegenden Becken (Spina iliaca anterior superior = SIAS) mit Deinen Händen einen Druck in Bankrichtung aus.

Ein auftretender Schmerz hinten in ISG-Richtung kann für eine Beteiligung des Kreuz-Darmbein-Gelenks sprechen ☝🏻, eine mögliche Verstärkung von Leistenschmerzen betont die Möglichkeit der Hüft- und hüftangrenzenden Pathologie.

Soft postural support for upper cross type posture.

These supports provide proprioceptive feedback to your shoulders and encourage you to bring them backwards and down. It’s useful for both acute and chronic postures but should only be used as a temporary support. It’s much better to train your muscles to do this for you but it can be a helpful reminder in the early days.

Application:
🌟Ask your patient to retract and depress their shoulder blades. (Pull your shoulder blades back and down).
🌟Apply 3 strips of tape spanning to mid scapular on both sides. These pieces should be at 70~80% in the middle but the ends should not be under tension.
🌟Ask patient again to retract and depress the shoulders.
🌟Apply two pieces that over lap over the spine. They should start just medial to the AC joint under no tension, pull the tape to 70~80% stretch and finish it over the lower ribs. Again the end pieces should not be under stretch. Try to get these pieces as symmetrical as you can.
🌟When the patient then allows their shoulders to come back to their normal position the tape should go into further stretch and give a gentle reminder of where their shoulders should be.
🌟#toptip always round the edges of the tape it can help to reduce fraying and help the tape last longer.

☃️ Vacances au ski en prévisions? ☃️ Voici quelques petits conseils pratique afin d’éviter les petits bobos du ski ! 🎿

✅ attention aux premiers jours... les premières descentes... on y va doucement...
✅ on pense à s’échauffer, quelques minutes suffisent, on fait monter le cardio, la température du corps
✅ on pense à faire des pauses, pour boire du vin chaud... avec modération... ou de l’eau... c’est mieux !
✅ on pense à s’alimenter pendant l’effort... pas trop de raclettes, tartiflettes, fondues ! Compotes, madeleines, fruits, fruits secs... c’est mieux !
✅ après la journée, quelques étirements globaux pour éviter les courbatures du lendemain
✅ douleurs aux pied dans les chaussures... pensez à aller voir les professionnels qui ont des solutions pour vous aider
✅ enfin... on fait attention aux autres, on se respecte 🏂⛷

1. Set specific goals. Be clear about what you want to achieve over the next few months eg lifting heavier weights, running further, be able to touch your toes, play with the grandchildren, walk the dog further. Specific, achievable goals mean you are more likely to succeed.

What is the difference between chiropractors and osteopaths? Whereas chiropractors are likely to crunch and click the bones, osteopaths are more likely to apply pressure to the soft tissue: the muscles, the ligaments, and the tendons. And, did you know we have our very own fabulous Osteopath, Lewis, at Pea Green, Bicester. 
For many years Lewis has had an interest in the way the body moves and how it can adapt with injury. He has been involved in sports from a very young age, playing mainly cricket and rugby, yet he would be keen for most things competitive.

Lewis graduated from The British School of Osteopathy having completed a 4 year Master’s degree programme. Lewis believes that with pragmatic and realistic advice and treatment, completely tailored to the patient, that you can create a benefit whether it be through hands-on therapy or guidance and  education.
