Looking at this photo today, I’m reminded how far I’ve come. It was my first ever creative portrait session. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing or if I could even produce something usable. We were both a little nervous (I was terrified) and started the session over a few beers, as you do. We gave ourselves the complete freedom to fail and created a safe space to try anything. I remember all the mistakes I made and can even see some of them in the editing. I didn’t quite pull focus so I over sharpened the areas that should’ve been clean. I didn’t have backup batteries or cards (😬) and one battery ran out mid-session. I adjusted my camera settings wildly on a whim which made editing a nightmare. Even finding this file just now was like herding kittens. But you can’t change what you did in the past, you can only learn from it. In fact, I’m learning to be downright rebellious these days and straight up celebrate my failures. Because I know they’re pushing me into something greater. SomeONE greater. And as I look back, and only with truck loads of grace, can I see all the progress I’ve made and then therefore look confidently into my future. I mean, now I don’t need a shot of tequila followed immediately by a nap just to say yes to a project. So that’s something. In frame: @scars.for.souvenirs
