WHY using WEIGHT PLATES under your HEELS is a TERRIBLE IDEA‼️❌
There are so many trainers out there that teach their clients to squat with weights under their heels to allow full depth in a squat. Which is only a TEMPORARY BANDAID FIX to the true UNDERLYING ISSUE...poor ankle mobility.
Instead of addressing the issue and helping their clients FIX the problem, they simply try to work around the client's disfunction. Adding more weight to DISFUNCTIONAL movement patterns causing even more DAMAGE and DISFUNCTION than was previously there.
The truth is there is a time and place for elevating the heel in a weightlifting shoe. However, for most people, being able to be STRONG through a wider RANGE OF MOVEMENT would be much more beneficial in the long term to their overall health.
Simply using bandaids like this make it harder for PROPERLY EDUCATED HEALTH AND FITNESS PROFESSIONALS to fix the problem in the future!
This photo was taken at 2am the night before we opened for our first day in 2017, after 12 weeks of intense construction and 12 months of planning and design. 👉 Gives me the sweats revisiting this! 😂😰
So, what'd we learn from taking on our first large commercial design & construction job? 🤔
👷♀️ Allow 50% more time & 50% more budget ($) than you think you'll need (if it's your first time).
👷♀️ Prepare for the most stressful few months of your life. Build support around you.
👷♀️ Start EARLY with council. It's guaranteed they'll throw a roadblock in at some point.
👷♀️ Appoint an amazing legal team to triple check your property terms. This will save your butt multiple times.
👷♀️ Appoint the best possible design team - thanks @sirendesign. Don't skimp.
👷♀️ Ensure your facility has full disability access and plan for a DDA consultant's input.
👷♀️ Put planning first 👉 Permits, building surveyors, engineers reports, occupancy permits. They can completely derail your project if not planned.
👷♀️ Document every conversation and agreement with your suppliers, contractors, council etc. They will come back to bite you. 😬
👷♀️ Manage the budget from start to finish. Smart design over budget blowouts.
👷♀️ Give yourself at least a week after finishing construction until you open to clients.
👷♀️ Appoint a trusted builder with experience in commercial projects. Thanks @switchcobuild 🙏
👷♀️ Acknowledged that you will have dozens of setbacks over the journey.
👷♀️ Create a flexible floor-plan because you won't get it right first time! You will renovate down the track.
👷♀️ Choose high quality finishes, you don't want to have to re-do your fitout in 3-5 years, or reduce your client experience with poor quality finishes. Don't take shortcuts, the detail matters (clients often comment on our custom herringbone detail on our reception bench, for example).
These are just a few tips to think about if you're embarking on a commercial build. 🙏😁

Not all of training is about throwing weights around and clocking up miles. Since hurting my back last year I’ve had to manage symptoms. I try and do this routine most days, but in reality it’s only a few times a week. It works the core and takes the pain away from my back: - 30 secs prone lying - McKenzie back extensions x 20
- Cat camel x 15 - Bird dog x 10/10
- Dead bug x 10/10 - Side plank x 30secs/30secs #back#backpain#rehab#injury#selfcare#healthy#trainer#gym
1 year and 123 days post op. Difference in hypertension. My surgery made my knee (photo on the right) tighter so I won’t hyperextend my injured leg and re-injure myself. This is a big comprise because I love splits. but I’m happy to compromise so I won’t injure myself again 😝
Check out the video on Kelly’s profile @kellymann_exphys ➡️➡️ LOWER BACK PAIN DURING SQUATS & DEADLIFTS 😥
Adam and I have been working on a long standing back issue which has been preventing him from squatting and deadlifting pain free in the gym.
Due to pain, Adam was sensitive and scared to move into flexion (bending forward), so we have been incorporating jefferson curls to desensitise his back in and then begin to rebuild his lifting. We have also been working on functional movement patterns for hip and core muscle imbalances.
Adam is already pain free and getting stronger every week. Awesome work man! 👊🏼 @email@example.com@performotion

Meet Nell. Founder of Victory and really exceptional Physiotherapist. Swipe left to read a bit more about why she's so excellent at fixing people. Fun fact; Nell has a small white rescue dog called Feta, who prefers to drink warm water rather than cold. 🤷
