~"A Long Pitch Home":
I am in absloute awe of how much diversity has increased in books!
"A Long Pitch Home" is a coming to America story. Bilal, his mother and siblings had to suddenly leave Pakistan and come to America. Bilal's father had to stay back in their home country.
This pre teen/ teen read deals with alot of 'firsts'. It also showcases Bilal's( or any new immigrants) struggles while they navigate a new place. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I moved to North America 24 years ago armed with my British vocabulary it took me while to understand that it wasn't Brinjal but eggplant, and okra not ladyfinger, cilantro instead of coriander! No one knew the game (not the insect) 'Cricket' (oh the horror) and I was to get excited over American football and later on Ice hockey! ⠀
Thus I empathize with Bilal as he learns a new 'culture' and learns the less formal American English over the formalized British one. How he struggles with trying to fit in while learning to stand up for others.
Lastly, what I admire about this book is how the author (who is not South Asian) has penned a beautiful story. Natalie Dias Lorenzi, who resides in Virginia has tried to bring forward the struggles of integrating into a new culture. It is not an easy feat to tell a story from a different perspective and culture.
'A Long Pitch Home' an intriguing read that helps build empathy in tweens/ teens. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
HELP🔥My YA novel is such a satisfying read. I believe in it as much as I believe in Holly’s Cruel Prince. 🍄🧚🏽♂️🧚♀️FREEBIE 🧝♂️My copy, along with my YA romantic thriller, a notebook & stickers are waiting for that kind UK reader to open the covers of RANDOM ATTACHMENT and comment and share is they so wish. There’s no obligation just a cool freebie bundle. You don’t have to be a book blogger just a YA lover. This is a WIN, WIN situation.
FREE BUNDLE. Looking for book review please of RANDOM ATTACHMENT. If you’ve time to read my romantic YA thriller it would be fab if you could rate it and write a sentence or two and share on your social media. Opinions are subjective so I understand you may not like the book so no pressure.
