Celebrating Our Sovereign(Powerful) Teens
Amazing!! 🚨🚨 So proud of Jacqueline Means, a young Scientists Inspiring her community. Can’t wait to have the opportunity to bring her to Dallas at one of our upcoming event Panel Discussion. Read Below ⬇️ At just 16, Delaware Military Academy junior Jacqueline Means has made a name for herself — and that name is “STEM Queen.”
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
Means is from Southbridge, a low-income industrial area on the south side of the Christina River known for a high dropout rate and a lack of education resources — and the violence that kind of marginalization often leads to. She founded the Wilmington Urban STEM Initiative (WUSI) two years ago to combat that marginalization. “My turning point came when I witnessed a person no older than myself get gunned down in the street near my home,” she said. “I knew then that I had to offer help in some way — to provide a different picture of what life could be to the children in my community who were only getting one image of their potential futures. I want my community to be a better place and help the kids in it to realize they can become anything they want to be.” When she’s not running the WUSI or conducting science experiments, Means participates in Chess Club and Business Professionals of America, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. •
I absolutely love my @erincondren academic planner😍 I finally have a section in the planner for big deadlines and is focused on only school! Best part? It was $12 and it’s undated so I can still use it for the next year!☺️
Through adversity, there is opportunity. Wow, Class of 2019, the time is here and the time is now! The last 4 years have truly been a roller coaster. I’m so proud of myself for persevering and remaining diligent. I’m so thankful for where I’ve been and hopeful for where I’m going. I thank God for the abundance of grace, mercy, favor, and blessings. I’ve been able to do “the impossible” by raising my SAT score by 460 points, going from a 900 to a 1360, and raising my ACT score by 15 points, going from a 14 to a 29. The struggle was very real, okay!! -
Participating in extra curricular activities such as: FBLA, Speech & Debate, FBLA Comp, National Business Honor Society, Dance Team, HoPe, Leaders of Tomorrow, Girls Going Global, Girls Inc., Strong Anchored Mentoring Group, Miss Hillgrove and everything else I had the honor to be apart of has truly helped mold me into the young woman I am today. While being a full time student, I’ve been able to share my entrepreneurial endeavors with my community through Pretty Hair Posse and Gia’s Couture Kloset. I’ve been able to create a series of events titled All Things College where I help my peers learn about the college admission process, earn scholarships, and standardized testing. -
Man, I’m so humbled to have accomplished amazing things within 4 years and I’m so thankful to call Hillgrove, home. I can’t believe my time as a Hawk flew by so fast (see what I did there 🤣). Our staff, teachers, and faculty are beyond amazing! So thank you to my teachers and staff for always being supportive of me, helping me beyond the classroom, and writing as many letters of recommendation per my request. You’ve truly made an impact in my life! Thank you to the few friends that I made for holding me down and being there for me. Lastly, thank you Hillgrove for the lessons, challenging courses, amazing opportunities, and unforgettable school events. Creating a deliberately successful mindset has enabled me to purposely create success within my studies and personal hobbies. I’ll truly miss this place and will always cherish the memories I created and lasting bonds. ‘19 signing out!❤️🎓 #hillgrovealumna#ggod
When building a business you sometimes have to roll up your sleeves and make things yourself. This huge whiteboard cost under $20 to make.
Now everyone in the studio can see what all we are working on at a glance. 🙌🏾
You’re going to get to see the final look on Sunday.
