Truth. I finally saw @amyschumer ‘s “I Feel Pretty” - I figured I’d never watch it since everyone on Twitter was so mad at it. But I liked it even though it was goofy. She made a really excellent point & I think a lot of people missed it.
Her character doesn’t suddenly see a different version of herself after her head injury. She doesn’t say “I’m so thin” or see her hair as a different color/texture. She consistently points to herself and says how amazing “all this” is - never characterizing what she looks like with any label - other than “hot” and “beautiful.” The only thing that changes for the character is how she SEES her Self.
All of us should be so fortunate, to experience ourselves as Perfect, despite all the things we usually list as flaws. What we experience TRULY IS a reflection of our internal world. If we believe - *really believe* - we’re All That, well, who can really argue? The world simply responds to how we carry ourselves and what we believe about our own worth. 👑
